LOS ANGELES, CA -- Hugh Jackman was treated for basal cell carcinoma, a slow-growing form of skin cancer. The actor posted a picture of himself on his Instagram account, showing him with a bandage on his nose. He wrote that his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, had urged him to see a doctor about the spot.
"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked," Jackman posted. "Boy, was she right! I had a basil (sic) cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And use sunscreen!!!"
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, basal cell carcinoma is a type of nonmelanoma skin cancer. It is usually caused by UV exposure and can be highly disfiguring if allowed to grow. But it rarely spreads to other parts of the body and is seldom life-threatening.
