GREENSBORO--The Middle College at NC A&T receives a prestigious honor this week by being named as one of 286 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. The all-male school was recognized as an Exemplary improving school, demonstrating marked academic achievement with more than forty percent of its students from disadvantaged households.
This honor is not the only achievement for the school. In 2012 and 2013 the school celebrated 100 percent graduation and 100 percent college acceptance rates. The school also went from being a low-performing school to an Honor School of Excellence in 2012.
The Middle College at A&T is one of two single-gender high schools in Guilford County Schools. The Middle College at Bennett, an all-female school, became a National Blue Ribbon School in 2012, along with the Academy at Smith. The Middle College at A&T is the only GCS to receive the designation this year, and one of only six in the state.
The school will be recognized in Washington, D.C. on November 18-19 by the U.S. Department of Education for this honor.
