Students have a lot to do to earn their high school diplomas. Now, some are adding community service.

This is the first year Guilford County Schools is offering recognition for community service.

Students who complete 75 hours of community service will receive an exemplary award, and those who perform 175 hours will earn a "service learning diploma."

One student told News 2 she enjoys her volunteer work, helping elementary school students learn to read.

Today superintendent Mo Green told students their volunteering would pay off in another way.

Those who complete their service hours will be eligible to win an iPad, iPod or even a new car!
