High Point, NC -- As theaters around the nation prepare for the release of the movie "Bully," Tiger Rock Martial Arts in High Point is helping kids learn how to defend themselves just in case bullying gets physical.
Saturday, they held a free kids bully defense workshop. They touched on bully awareness drills, developing confidence, bully prevention, and simple physical techniques.
But owner/instructor Steve Snyder said getting physical is not the main thing kids need. "Positive reinforcement from adults and their mentors, could be teachers, athletic coaches, or friends of the family, so positive reinforcement is one way to help build their self confidence. [...] Then that when they do, go into the school and they are encountered with a person that is negative towards them, then its not as bad."
The first things Tiger Rock Martial Arts teaches is to try to get away from the situation instead of getting physical.
