EDEN, N.C. -- Police arrested a woman in Eden after they say she left her 1-year-old in a car for almost an hour.
Officers found the crying child around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in a minivan at a Walmart parking lot. They had to break the window to unlock the door.
Police said they tried to find girl's parents and Walmart employees paged the van's owner numerous times.
While officers reviewed surveillance footage, Robin Chevy Gabrielle McMahon approached them and asked about her child.
Police say she went into the store at about 6:36 p.m. and came out around 7:52 p.m.
They arrested her. Officials charged McMahon with Misdemeanor Child Abuse and Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance.
The little girl went to Morehead Hospital. Doctors treated and released her. She is now in the custody of the Rockingham County Department of Social Service.
