GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A huge
retail area might be coming to West Wendover Avenue and Sapp Road in
Greensboro. It will be located on the northeast corner
of the intersection across from the Animal Hospital.
The plans include at least
one retail store, a fitness center and a restaurant. Developers aren't
revealing the tenants yet.
The local Department of
Transportation recently conducted a traffic study in the area to determine
what, if any, changes would be required.
The area already sees about 5,000
vehicles a day, so to prepare for even more, the developer would add turn lanes
at several nearby intersections. "It uses a lot of existing infrastructure already in place and it just
adds to that through some additional access points and turn lanes," said
local DOT manager Chris Spencer.
The area must still be
rezoned before construction can begin. The zoning commission will hear the
issue later this month. If all goes as planned, the project will begin next year.
