GREENSBORO - Delaware State's defense held North Carolina A&T to 57 yards rushing, and DSU wide receiver Milton Williams III had six catches for 100 yards as Delaware State defeated the Aggies 12-7 Saturday afternoon in MEAC football action at Aggie Stadium.
The Hornets (3-4 overall, 3-1 MEAC) handed the Aggies (3-3, 1-3) their third straight loss and ended A&T's seven-game home win streak.
Desmond Lawrence gave the Aggies a spark late in the fourth quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Lewis Kindle with 1:57 left in the game. After the extra point, the Aggies attempted an onside kick, but it was recovered by Ernest Adeji to seal the Hornets' win.
Lamar Shaw scored the game's first touchdown on a 1-yard run with 5:12 remaining in the third quarter to extend DSU's lead to 12-0. The Hornets attempted a two-point conversion but the Aggie defense broke up Murphy's pass.
Mitchell Ward gave Delaware State their first six points with a pair of field goals - a 37-yard kick in the first quarter with 10:56 left and a 43-yard field goal to end the second quarter.
DSU quarterback Cory Murphy was 16-for-30passes for 180 yards. His counterpart, Lewis Kindle, was 13-for-19 with an interception and a touchdown. Kindle was replaced momentarily by Kwashaun Quick in the second quarter. Quick completed one pass attempt out of five for five yards. Aggies freshman running back Tarik Cohen had 91 yards rushing on 19 carries.
A&T will visit Florida A&M on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a conference game beginning at 2 p.m.
