Greensboro, NC --  Don't miss these details about the Affordable Care Act & The Marketplace.

Ashlee Smart from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina warns, "don't think you can hold off on getting health coverage, get sick and then instantly enroll. You will be disappointed."

If you wait until after December 15th to sign up, you will wait anywhere between 2 weeks to nearly 45 days for the coverage to kick in.

Also, if you don't enroll by March 31, 2014, the soonest you can get health coverage is January 1, 2015. There are only a few exceptions.

"If you lose your job, your have a change in income, health coverage changes at your workplace or you have a child, " explains Smart. What about if you get pregnant and you don't  have health coverage? "That is not in the exceptions list. You will have to wait until January 1, 2015."

What if you're thinking you can't afford healthcare without a subsidy? BCBSNC has an online help to see if you qualify for subsidies. You simply plug in your numbers and it will give you an estimate of what your subsidy could be. It is free and no strings attached.
