Greensboro, NC -- This is "Education Week" on 2WTK. On Tuesday, we took part of the newscast to Guilford Technical Community College's Wendover Campus.
The Machinists class was in session at the time. Lisa Cozart, Occupational Education Co-ordinator talked with us about the biggest misconception of continuing education.
"I think people think continuing education training is not important or not substantial when in fact it is the opposite. You can grow on your own or you can learn employment needs."
Lisa was quick to point out how continuing education can be used to learn a skill: basketweaving, cake decorating, stained glass. And that skill can lead to not only saving money on what you do for yourself, but can turn into a money maker.
About 25,000 students take some sort of continuing education class on GTCC's campuses. This year, the continuing education courses include Braille, personal trainer certification training and more.
Check out GTCC's course listings. While some classes have started, there are some mid-Fall classes you can look into as well.
