STANLEY, N.C. -- Detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office filed involuntary manslaughter charges against a man for the accidental death of his daughter and nephew after they became trapped under a large pile of dirt, according to a report from CBS-affiliate, WBTV.
Jordan Keely Arwood, 31, is facing charges of two felony counts of Involuntary Manslaughter. The new charges follow an investigation where detectives said they found culpable negligence in the children's deaths.
James Levi Caldwell, 7, and Chloe Jade Arwood, 6, died in early April at a construction site. Jordan was operating a backhoe in a two-story-deep hole that collapsed and killed his young nephew and daughter.
About 75 rescuers from four nearby counties were called to help. It took them more than 12 hours to find the bodies of the children.
Authorities charged him in mid-April with Possession of a Gun by a Felon and Making a Controlled Substance. Jordan went to jail under a $20,000 bond.
