Winston-Salem, NC -- Police arrested two robbery suspects - one responsible for three other recent armed robberies - Saturday after a vehicle chase, High Point police say.

Officers received a call about an armed robbery on Greensboro Road at 11:17 a.m. When police made it to the scene, a witness pointed out one of the suspects to the officers.

Police say the suspect got into a stolen, silver Lexus, with Tennessee tags, and sped away from the scene.

High Point police officers chased the suspects onto I-74 and into Forsyth County. That's when Winston-Salem police and Forsyth County deputies joined in on the chase.

Their pursuit ended when one of the suspects crashed the Lexus into a tree near the corner of Cleveland Avenue and 12th Street in Winston-Salem.

Officers arrested Melvin Paul, 32, and Sharmia Hagler, 29, at the scene.

Both suspects were treated for minor injuries after the wreck, according to a news release.

After an investigation, Winston-Salem police determined Melvin Paul was responsbile for three other robberies, including an armed robbery prior to the one in High Point on Saturday.

Winston-Salem police have charged Paul in a robbery Saturday morning - around 3:15 a.m. - at the 7-11/Fast Track on University Parkway. He's also charged with the Sept. 1 and Sept. 10 armed robberies of the Akron Market Citgo on N. Glenn Ave.

Winston-Salem police have not set a bond or court date for Paul in relation to these charges.

High Point police are still investigating their end of the case as well, and charges for the suspects are pending.
