Asheville, NC-- Eight Erwin High students involved in a brawl are facing undetermined suspensions as authorities hash out the details of the melee.
Isael Delgado, 19, and Dequawn Daniels, 18, each were charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the free-for-all Tuesday morning inside the school. Six minors also were charged with disorderly conduct.
Jan Blunt, spokeswoman for Buncombe County Schools, said she did not know how long the students would be suspended, adding, "the policy is ... if you fight, you are suspended."
"They are suspended pending the outcome of the investigation," she said. "How long the students will be suspended is dependent on the outcome of the investigation."
She also said each individual's school record to date will also factor into the length of the suspensions.
Two teachers who tried to break up the fight suffered minor injuries and were treated at a medical clinic. Blunt did not have any details about their injuries.
A third teacher who helped break up the fight declined treatment.
The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office is providing extra officers at the school for the next several days, spokeswoman Natalie Bailey said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, she said.
