GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Police in Greensboro say an apparent domestic violence incident sent one person to the hospital and left another dead.
Laurissa Armstrong, 62, was shot multiple times at Steeplechase Apartment Complex in Adams Farm as children were getting ready to go to school Thursday morning. Police said she was found lying next to a car just before 8 a.m.
She has been taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
Police found Laurissa's 61-year-old husband, Bruce Ray Armstrong, a couple hours later in a Lowe's parking lot on South Forty Drive. They said he was in a rented vehicle and was unresponsive. He was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the cause of Bruce's death is unknown at this time.
Investigators said Bruce and Laurissa are married, but were not living together. They said a motive has not been established, and did not identify Bruce as the person who shot Laurissa.
Laurissa is a Career and Technical Education Teacher at Welborn Middle School. She started working with Guilford County Schools in 1996.
