ACC Breakdown: Duke Reloads For Difficult Schedule

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke, in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Conference, released its entire 2013-14 men's basketball schedule Thursday. The Blue Devils are currently scheduled to play 26 regular season games on the ESPN family of networks, including two Big Monday tilts (Jan. 13 vs. Virginia and Jan. 27 at Pittsburgh) and a pair of ESPN College GameDay contests (Feb. 1 at Syracuse and March 8 vs. North Carolina).

 

The Blue Devils, with 10 letterwinners and six players with starting experience returning from last year's team that finished 30-6 overall and 14-4 in the ACC, face another challenging schedule in 2013-14 with 12 contests against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago.

 

Duke opens the season Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. against Davidson on ESPNU. The Blue Devils then travel to the United Center in Chicago to play a highly-touted Kansas team in the Champions Classic Tuesday, Nov. 12 (10:00 p.m. - ESPN).

 

Coach K's group will also compete in the Preseason NIT in November. Duke hosts UNC Asheville at Cameron Indoor Stadium Monday, Nov. 18 (7:00 p.m. - ESPNU), with East Carolina playing Norfolk State following the Duke game. The Blue Devils will face East Carolina or Norfolk State at 6:00 p.m. on ESPNU Nov. 19, while UNC Asheville will also play one of those two schools following the Duke game. The Preseason NIT will continue in New York at Madison Square Garden with semifinal matchups Nov. 27.  The championship game of the Preseason NIT is set for Friday, Nov. 29. Alabama, Arizona and Rutgers are the other host schools for the opening rounds of the Preseason NIT.

 

Duke's early season schedule gets another boost with a home contest against 2013 national runner-up Michigan in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Wolverines travel to Durham for a Tuesday, Dec. 3 tilt (9:15 p.m. - ESPN). The Blue Devils' other remaining non-conference home games are against Florida Atlantic (Nov. 15), Vermont (Nov. 24), Gardner-Webb (Dec. 16) and Eastern Michigan (Dec. 28).

 

Duke will play UCLA (7:30 p.m. - ESPN) Thursday, Dec. 19 in the CARQUEST Auto Parts Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Blue Devils also play Elon, Dec. 31 (ESPNU), at the Greensboro Coliseum in a neutral site contest.

 

Duke's ACC slate starts Saturday, Jan. 4 with a road trip to South Bend, Ind. The Blue Devils face Notre Dame in a 4:00 p.m. CBS broadcast. Duke also makes trips to Clemson (Jan. 11), Miami (Jan. 22), Pittsburgh (Jan. 27), Syracuse (Feb. 1), Boston College (Feb. 8), North Carolina (Feb. 12), Georgia Tech (Feb. 18) and Wake Forest (March 5) in 2014.

 

ACC play at Cameron Indoor Stadium opens Tuesday, Jan. 7 against Georgia Tech, while the Blue Devils also welcome Virginia (Jan. 13), NC State (Jan. 18), Florida State (Jan. 25), Wake Forest (Feb. 4), Maryland (Feb. 15), Syracuse (Feb. 22), Virginia Tech (Feb. 25) and North Carolina (March 8) as part of their 18-game conference schedule.

 

The 2014 ACC Tournament will be March 12-16 at the Greensboro Coliseum. Duke has won eight ACC regular season championships and 10 of the last 16 ACC Tournament titles. The Blue Devils have compiled an impressive 206-52 league record over the past 15 seasons, with a 36-6 mark in the ACC Tournament.

 

Duke opens the 2013-14 preseason with an open practice at Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday, Sept. 28. Check out GoDuke.com early that week for start time and other details. The Blue Devils are holding the annual Countdown to Craziness Friday, Oct. 18 and will host Bowie State (Oct. 26) and Drury (Nov. 2) in exhibition contests. All three events will be available through the Blue Devil Network via GoDuke.com.

 

All conference games carried on an ESPN network will also be available on WatchESPN, while all league games carried on the ACC Network or a regional sports network will also be available on ESPN3.
