Capron, VA-- Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a charter bus in Southampton County. State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the accident occurred about 7:05 a.m. Friday on U.S. Route 58 in Capron. She says one person was killed.
Anaya says the bus carrying eight passengers was headed from Chapel Hill, N.C., to Hampton. She says the driver lost control and the bus ran off the road and overturned in a ditch.
No other vehicles were involved.
CBS Station WTKR is reporting that two passengers were ejected from the bus. One died of injuries at the scene, and the other was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
The deceased man has been identified as 58-year-old Doval Emmanuel Watson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
NewsChannel 3 spoke with Watson's children who both attend Hampton University. They say their mother, Theresa Watson, is being transported to Norfolk General. She is listed in critical condition.
They say their mother works with students at Chapel Hill to get them ready for college. She was bringing a group of them to open house.
The driver, Larry Brocks, 62 of Raleigh has been charged with: Reckless Driving. The ower of the bus WTKR reported is Horizon Coach Lines out of Seattle, Washington.
Virginia State Police said more charges could be filed in the accident.
