Kernersville, NC -- Kernersville's Police Department is without its police chief after Chief Ken Gamble resigned on Monday.

According to a news release from the Town of Kernersville Chief Gamble cited a difference in leadership and management style that's incompatible with the Town Manager and the vision of the board's department for moving ahead for the reasons he's stepping down.

According to emails between Chief Gamble and town leaders, the town manager and council placed him on six months probation on February 15, 2013.

The Town of Kernersville gave staff at the police department a morale survey that came back negative.

Gamble developed an action plan and timeline for more staff training, salary increases, hiring positions and updating police gear. However an email from Gamble to town leaders said they didn't give him enough time or support to carry out the changes.

Gamble was on a two-week paid administrative leave and was due back Monday. Kernersville PD cited a "personal matter."

Gamble was cited in September for hitting two detained suspects with his vehicle in July.

Chief Gamble worked with Kernersville for nearly 20 years and just a little more than three years as Chief.
