Explosive Devices Used To Destroy Mailboxes In Rockingham County

Madison, NC -- Detectives in Rockingham County are looking for whoever set off explosives inside two mailboxes in the Madison area. Officers said the suspects even took pictures of the damage they caused.

Officers said the first call came into the 911 center around 1:15 am Sunday from a house in the 3600 block of NC 704. The man reported that his mailbox had been destroyed by an explosive device. Less than an hour later, 911 received another call at 2:00 am, from a homeowner in the 700 block of Ellisboro Rd. The victim also reported that his mailbox had been destroyed by an explosive device.

Debris from the mailboxes was found as far as 100 feet away from the site of the explosion, detectives said.

Detectives said the suspects returned to the scene of the crime on Ellisboro Road to take pictures of the destruction before speeding off.

Description of possible suspect vehicle: The Sheriff's Office is looking for a dark colored 4-wheel drive pickup truck (possibly a Cummings Dodge) Diesel engine with very loud muffler, dark/tinted windows and a lift kit. It was occupied by several Caucasian males, two of which were riding in the bed of the truck in connection with the property damage at these locations.
