Winston-Salem, NC -- Officer Rodolfo Zermeno has resigned from the Winston-Salem Police Department amid allegations of assault and communicating threats, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
City officials say Zermeno, who had been on the foce since 2009, resigned Sunday.
Zermeno was arrested two weeks ago after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to kill her. He was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female and communicating threats.
Investigators say Zermeno pushed his girlfriend, Maria Fidelina Aguilar, and threatened to kill her. Zermeno's girlfriend obtained a restraining order against him shortly after his arrest.
The two have three children together.
This was Zermeno's second arrest for assaulting a female. The first came in May 2012 when he was accused of slapping Aguilar, pushing her into a wall and hitting her with a remote control. The assault charge was voluntarily dismissed.
