Eden, NC -- Police arrested a juvenile suspect after they say the person stole a patrol car and led police on a chase before wrecking it Sunday morning.

Eden police officers were driving on Harrington Highway near Bethlehem Church Road around 2:45 a.m. when they noticed a car down an embankment. The officers turned around to assist anyone inside, but they couldn't find any of the vehicle's occupants when they went down to help.

Investigators determined that the vehicle was stolen from a home in Reidsville and called for backup to help find the person who stole it.

When the other officers arrived to help with the search, a juvenile broke into one of the Eden police cars and drove away from the scene.

Mayodan police later located the car in Mayodan. When officers tried to talk to the suspect, the juvenile drove away and hit a Mayodan police patrol car.

During a chase, the juvenile lost control of the police car at the intersection of Highway 704 and Highway 8 in Stokes County. Officers arrested the suspect and took him to the Stokes County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives say they won't release any of the juvenile's personal information.

Highway Patrol is investigating both accidents.
