Winston-Salem, NC -- The Triad Business Journal is reporting that Governor Bev Perdue will be in Forsyth County Wednesday for a major jobs announcement.
The paper reports Governor Perdue is expected to announce that Herbalife Ltd. has chosen Winston-Salem for its $100 million manufacturing and distribution hub. The move will also mean 500 jobs. The Journal reports Herbalife wants to move into the former Dell building.
Several sources connected to the Herbalife deal told the Business Journal they anticipated an announcement Wednesday, but could not confirm details. However, Forsyth County told WFMY News 2 that the Governor will be in town for a major announcement on Wednesday.
Alana Allen, deputy press secretary for Perdue, also said the governor is planning on traveling to Forsyth County Wednesday, but her office could not immediately release more information.
"The fact is - the Triad is still battling a really high unemployment rate. So, we've still got a long way to go. But, this jobs announcement, 500 jobs, is one of the biggest we've had in a long time. This is definitely a positive sign," Business Journal Reporter Catherine Carlock said.
As The Business Journal reported in November, Herbalife International makes weight loss, nutritional and personal care products.
