Greensboro, NC-- A gym project for a Guilford County High School has been put on delay.
At its Tuesday night meeting, the Guilford County School Board announced that the completion of phase one of the High Point Central High School gymnasium project will be pushed back at least a month.
In a news release the school said that KMD Construction, the contractor working on the project had informed them of the delay. School officials told parents and High Point community members about the project's delay today.
Additional information released (via news release) on the project by GCS: the gym won't be ready for basketball games until a tentative date of Jan. 17, 2013, about a month after the previous date of Dec. 15, 2012. This additional delay means the reminder of High Point Central's home basketball games will most likely be played at Southwest Guilford High. Southwest Guilford High also hosted High Point Central's basketball games last year.
Phase one of the High Point Central gym project includes a new concession stand and ticket booth as well as a new multi-purpose room and renovated locker rooms and offices.
The current contractor, KMD Construction, is the second contractor working on the project. Miles Builders was first awarded the contract in April of 2011 and the building was scheduled to be ready for games in October of 2011. The Guilford County Board of Education terminated that contract in November 2011 after delays and reports the contractor was not paying subcontractors.
