Don't Assume You're Overqualified

Greensboro, NC -- In this week's career check, career consultant Joyce Richam recommends not assuming you're overqualified for a job when you're searching for one.

"Check you assumptions if you think you are overqualified for all the jobs where you are interviewing. I mean, it could be true in a couple of cases that where you're interviewing, it's a job that is really junior to what you've done and the same kind of industry with the same kind of business. But in most cases right now, you are not going to be overqualified," she said.

"What you're going to run into is you're going to be dealing with a demographic, you're going to be dealing with different product processes with different systems, and with a social media that you might just be getting comfortable with yourself. So rather than presuming that you're overqualified, consider that you're qualified just enough to apply for that job," added Richman.
