Eden, NC -- An Rockingham County man pulls off a miracle every two weeks.
Andrew Collins started the Lord's Pantry free food and clothing ministry in Eden about ten years ago. He helps put food into the mouths of the hungry and clothes on the backs of those in need.
Lord's Pantry volunteer Ruby Hampton has watched Collins work his miracles for six years. "Oh lord, he's a wonderful person. He's got a heart as big as all outside, the whole wide outdoors."
Andrew "Gyp" Collins knows the word "free" on this sign gets a lot of attention. Twice a month, hundreds of people line up outside to pick up boxes and bags full of free food.
"The people know me and they appreciate it and I know it," said Collins. "I don't know them all, I'll tell you, my mental capacity is not that good anymore."
Andrew is 83 years old now and says he'll keep going as long as he can.
"If it wasn't for them every other week, I'd be hurting bad for food and bread and stuff," said recipient Linda Hill
The pantry buys about $40,000 worth of food from the Second Harvest Food Bank every couple of weeks.
"God still blesses me to be able to raise money to buy this stuff," said Collins. "I raise a million dollars a year to buy a million dollars worth of food a year."
"A lot of smiles, a lot of gratitude, a lot of people saying thank you," adds Hampton. "We wouldn't know what we would do if it wasn't for the Lord's Pantry."
