King, NC - For over 30 years Mitchell's Nursery and Greenhouse has been the place to turn to spruce up your garden. This time of year though the greenhouse is filled with plants you bring indoors.
Judy and Jim Mitchell have grown over 8,000 poinsettias this year and they feature over 80 different varieties. While the majority of the plants are sold locally in the triad, they do ship some to Raleigh.
Mitchell's is one of 33 nurseries in the U.S. and Canada that grows trial poinsettias. These are new colors and leaf variations that are tried out in certain markets to see if they will be offered the next year. You can find some of these "never seen before" plants at this year's open house.
The Mitchell's open house is Sunday December 2, 2012 from 12:30 pm until 4:30 pm.
The economic impact of the poinsettia contributes more than $200 million to the state's economy, with growers state wide producing over 4 million plants.
