Meet Widget, an 8 month old, 5 pound chi-weenie who is seeking a new home where he will be understood. You see, Widget came into rescue because he had been very misunderstood. One rescue group even stated that they would likely have him euthanized because they deemed him unadoptable due to his stranger anxiety. Widget's foster mommy knew that his fear had to be stemming from somewhere and time would show that he could bloom into a loving little pup!

Widget's former home got him when he was only 6 weeks old - he was being given away in a grocery store parking lot. He was the last of the litter and the individuals who bred him were making unkind threats of what they would have to do if Widget did not get a home. Their intention at first was to take him into their home and get his vetting done, then find him a loving home. Within days of getting Widget they received news that they were going to have to move across country and Widget had a lot of upheaval at a critical time in his development at such a young age. His family had also never had a small dog before so they were not prepared for the small dog size complex that dachshunds and chihuahuas frequently develop - and they were also not expecting to get as attached as they got to Widget. Widget loved his family but was living in a home with a lot of anxiety and stress - and he began to project those emotions onto others, causing more issues for his family. So rescue was called and he came to his foster home, where he has flourished.

Widget LOVES his foster family and is extremely playful! He is a typical puppy in all regards. He likes to run and play and will fetch a ball, chew on your hand, jump in your lap, and give you tons of kisses, but most of all he just loves to snuggle with his people. Widget is great with humans of all ages in his foster home and loves the other dogs too! Widget is working on housetraining and is coming along well, but will need continued work in his new adoptive home since he is (after all) still a puppy. Widget's only real downfall is strangers - he gets very anxious and barks loudly when new people come over. We have found that the best way to introduce Widget to new friends is to hold him and let visitors pet him. This seems to help Widget feel more secure and he tends to calm down after 5-10 minutes. Widget loves to run outside with all of his foster buddies and he loves to be mischievous and entertain with his humor. He would do fine in a home with other animals and he would enjoy having human kids around to toss a ball or snuggle him.
