Unlikely hero, Stuart Chandler, makes it possible for area kids to get their homework done... He drives the van to get the tutors to them.
Stokesdale -- Every weekday, you can see Stuart Chandler driving from Stokesdale to Greensboro... then back to Stokesdale... back to Greensboro... and then back to Stokesdale. It's not for his job. It's all volunteer.
Each week, for the past few years, Chandler gets up at around 4:30 each morning. He goes to work as a convenient store manager and works his 8 hours. When he gets off work, he reports straight to Operation Homework to begin his daily journey. Operation Homework pairs K-12 students with college students who help them with homework, study skills and test preparation. Chandler gives 20-25 hours each week to shuttle tutors from area colleges to Stokesdale and then returns them to their apartments and dorms.
Stuart says, "It would have to be the Lord that keeps me going. He gives you the strength to do what you need to do."
The thing that keeps him going is simple... "hearing when they get their report cards and how their grades went up." He says he just loves serving. The tutors would be no good if they weren't able to get to the students who need them. He makes that happen through this shuttle service.
