GREENSBORO - The shooting at the Los Angeles International Airport on Friday might have you wondering if we have enough security at public places here in the Triad.

After a national incident, sometimes there are calls for more security and more restrictions. But officers say we need to balance our reactions with everyday needs for privacy.

"You do not want to intrude on people's rights to be there, but you also don't want to intrude on people's rights to not be a victim also," said Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes.

Barnes knows there's a fine line, but he also knows safety is the priority.

"We try to train our guys not to abuse their authority but we also remind them that their authority is put there so they can provide safety for our citizens," said Barnes.

Some people say they want more security, but the Sheriff says no level of security will protect against everything.

"When is there not enough?" asks Barnes. "If anything happens, then people are going to say there's not enough. You can never have too many. Enough would be one on one but that's not going to happen."

At the Piedmont Triad International Airport, they provide their own police force, but will partner with the Sheriff's Office as needed.
