Greensboro, NC-- Police found a 53-year-old Greensboro man dead in his home Tuesday morning. Police are investigating the death as a murder.
Sammy Davis Jeffers was found dead in his home on Rockett St. Jeffers' family called 911 after they went to his house to check on him.
Police immediately started to investigate the death as a murder because it looked suspicious.
"The amount of blood that was in the residence gave us cause that we needed to look into it further and we're always going to start as if any crime is a homicide because you want to investigate it to the fullest extent," Lt. Karen Walters told WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford.
Police aren't saying anything about a weapon or motive in the case. They're waiting on autopsy results before coming to conclusions. In the mean time, police are following up on leads.
WFMY News 2 asked Jeffers' family if they wanted to comment about the death of their loved one. They declined but told WFMY News 2 that he was not a member of the military.
There is a huge United States Army flag hanging out the front of his house. Another neighbor told WFMY News 2 that Jeffers kept to himself but was always friendly and helpful.
"He was a real friendly man. He cut our grass. He pulled the trash down for everybody on the whole neighborhood. He was an easy person to get along. You know, he didn't bother nobody. He helped everybody in the neighborhood," said Lakesha O'Neal, a neighbor who lived across the street from Jeffers.
Police say the community doesn't have to worry but O'Neal is concerned for her safety.
O'Neal added, "If anybody hurt him, I hope they find him so we could over here on Rockett Street be at peace."
