Mt. Airy Man Arrested In Series Of Break-Ins

Mt. Airy, NC -- A Mt. Airy man is in custody after a string of break-ins and robberies along Rockford Street, according to the police department.

Friday, officers found a man fitting the description of the suspect in a purse snatching at the Hampton Inn and Asian House restaurant on Rockford Street.

When police tried to stop the man, led police on a foot chase.

After the brief pursuit, officers arrested Robert Lee Adkins; they found stolen goods from Tractor Supply in his possession at the time of the arrest. Adkins also had financial cards, a driver's license and other forms of identification from his victims in his possession.

Investigators were able to link Adkins to residential breaking-and-entering cases, several business robberies, and motor vehicle break-ins.

Adkins is charged with four counts of felony breaking and entering; six counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle; one count of felony larceny, six counts of misdemeanor larceny; and one count of misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Police say there are more felony charges to come for Adkins.

He;s being held in the Surry County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.
