ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. - An official in Missouri is warning residents to beware of private offers to provide public records copies.
J. Hall, St. Charles County Recorder of Deeds, says some property
owners have received letters from companies offering certified copies of
their deed for $83. The companies acquire the copies from the
recorder's office for a $2, plus $1 for each additional page and $1 for
certification, and then pass the deed along to the homeowner, charging
them substantially more.
