WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- 2 Wants to Know wanted to take a closer look at a story we told you about last week.
AWinston-Salem jury convicted Robert Arthur Pace of the 1989 rape of a seven-year-old girl. A judge sentenced Pace to life in prison plus another 10 years on an additional sexual offense. It's amazing, someone was able to be brought to justice for this case after after 24 years.
This prompted 2 Wants to Know to take a deeper look at the sexual assault-related statutes of limitations in our state. Did you know there is NO statute of limitations for any sexual offense felonies in North Carolina. Sexual intercourse and sexual offenses with minors are considered felonies, so there is no statute of limitations. That means, as in Pace's case, offenders can be tried decades later.
