Greensboro, NC -- Having your kid deal with bullying is hard enough. But how do you, as a parent deal with it?

Eleanor-Scott Davis of Piedmont Parent talks about  dealing with your own feelings as a parent.

"It can be heartbreaking to know that your child is being picked on or excluded. Addressing this type of situation can be a difficult balancing act for parents,  says Davis.

How do you know when to step in and talk to the teacher? No one like to be bullied, but Davis says when it becomes more than an annoyance and your child starts talking about not wanting to go to school because of the issue, you know it is time to talk to the teacher.

Davis says it's also important to have a delicate balance of comfort and confidence. You want to comfort your child, but you don't want them to play the victim. You need to make sure they are comforted while training them to be a survivor. It can be hard to do when all you want to do is protect your child.

So what happens if you find out it's YOUR child that is the bully? Shaming doesn't work. Parents may want to say, "I didn't raise you to do that." But remember, it's not about you, its about them. Find out what is going on at home and around them they are acting this way.
