found thousands of dollars in the state treasurer's kitty of unclaimed cash which
appears to belong to Triad cities, counties and schools. Once we found the
money, we played the part of money fairy delivering the good news.
Who's getting the biggest
surprise? The Guilford County School District. The state treasurer lists about
$8000 in unclaimed money that seems to belong to GCS.
2 Wants To Know also told Guilford County's Finance Department that a little
more than $4000 is ready for the County to pick up. The money just keeps
Alamance Schools has almost $3,000. Forsyth County Government has about $27,000.
And Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has $2,100. Plus nine other agencies
have unclaimed money below the $2,000 mark. In all 2 Wants To Know found more
than $23,000 which appears to belong to Triad governments.
Most of these government
agencies say they check the state's unclaimed property list once or twice a
year. But the state treasurer says new information goes up every
